Coventry v Plymouth Argyle

Coventry are still looking for the 1st win of the 18/19 season but managed a point and a clean sheet away at AFC Wimbledon last week but went crashing out of the Caraboa Cup in midweek at Oxford United’s Kassam Stadium losing 2 – 0 Although City had the ball in the net twice they were both ruled out for offside.

Plymouth are also looking for their 1st league win off the season with a similar record to Coventry’s having lost their opening day fixture away at Walsall 2 – 1 then drawing 1 – 1 at home to Southend last Saturday. However they managed to progress in the cup in midweek beating last season’s semi-finalists Bristol City.

Coventry has been linked with a loan move for Derby youngster Luke Thomas.

AFC Wimbledon v Coventry City

Coventry travel to Wimbledon for the first away game of the season and despite the defeat at home to Scunthorpe there were many positives from the game not least the performance from Tony Andreau who recovered from a long term injury to put on a vintage display topped off with a wonderful free kick from 25 yards for City’s goal. Of the debutants Brandon Mason and Abu Ogogo  both performed admirably with Ogogo getting the sponsors man of the match and Jordy Hiwula who only signed on the Thursday before the game showed glimpses of what is to come from him. The only player who slightly disappointed was Chelsea loanee Dujon Sterling but having been away with England U20’s for most of pre-season can be forgiven.

City will have Tom Davies available after serving a ban on the opening game of the season and new signing from Walsall Amadou Bakayoko, who joined the Sky Blues after turning down a move to Bristol Rovers for a fee rumoured to be around £200K.

Coventry City v Scunthorpe United

A quick synopsis.

Quality players gone out. Substandard/ordinary players have come in. Squad still has gaping holes in it, despite season kicking off in just a weeks time.

You will beat us by a few goals and we’ll be very, very lucky to finish mid table the way things are looking.

This off season has been absolutely diabolical.

Coventry will not have defender Tom Davies due to the final match of his 3 match suspension handed down by the FA retrospectively following a stamp in the play-off semi-final against Notts County. Jodi Jones will also be unavailable due to still recovering from the injury received last season but is making good progress and should be available for selection late August to early September.
