Adam Smith has established himself as a key member of the Cherries squad since signing permanently in January 2014.A versatile performer, Smith is predominantly a right-back but also operates at left-back and anywhere across midfield. He progressed through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur and made two first-team appearances for the London club. Smith came on as a 76th-minute replacement for Younes Kaboul during Spurs's 2-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League in May 2012 and started their 3-0 victory against Carlisle in the Capital One Cup in September 2012. During his time at White Hart Lane, Smith served no fewer than seven clubs on loan – Wycombe Wanderers, Torquay United, AFC Bournemouth, MK Dons, Leeds United, Millwall, Derby County. He scored his first career goal while on loan to the Cherries, his stunning late strike earning them a dramatic 3-3 draw at Peterborough in April 2011. Smith made 42 appearances during his loan spell in Dorset and started both legs of the League One play-off semi-final against Huddersfield Town in May 2011. After signing permanently for the Cherries from Tottenham, Smith made five appearances in the Championship in 2013/14 and featured regularly as the club clinched promotion to the Premier League the following season. He made 31 appearances in the club's maiden season in the top flight in 2015/16, scoring crucial goals in the memorable 3-3 draw with Everton and in the 2-1 win over West Brom. In 2016/17, Smith shone as an attacking threat, scoring once and providing five assists in 36 games in the Premier League. He was rewarded for his exploits with a new four-year contract in July 2017, tying him to the club at least until the summer of 2021. He had another productive campaign in 2017/18 and netted a goal-of-the-season contender against Newcastle United to set up a dramatic comeback in a 2-2 draw at Vitality Stadium. Smith starred in the club's best start to a Premier League season in 2018/19 and scored in the 4-2 win over Leicester at Vitality Stadium in September 2018. In October 2018, Smith made his 100th appearance in the Premier League during the Cherries' 0-0 draw against Southampton. However, a knee injury sustained at Newcastle in November 2018 ruled him out for two months before he returned to start the 2-0 defeat at Everton in January 2019. Smith made 22 appearances in the top flight in 2018/19 as the Cherries finished 14th. Capped at all levels by England between under-16 and under-21, he played 11 times for the under-21s.
