First Name:
Artur
Last Name:
Boruc

Polish goalkeeper Artur Boruc has enjoyed a glittering career both with club and country.

Boruc started his professional career in 1998 with Polish third division side Pogoń Siedlce, his hometown club. The following season, he joined Legia Warsaw, one of Poland's most successful clubs, initially playing for the reserves – as well as being loaned out in 2000 to Dolcan Ząbki. His impressive displays eventually saw him earn the number one jersey before making his full Poland debut in 2004. Boruc’s exploits caught the eye of a number of Europe’s top clubs, with Celtic signing him initially on loan for a year before the move became permanent. A hugely-popular figure with the Celtic faithful, he spent five years at Celtic Park, making 162 league appearances and winning three championships and the 2006 Scottish Cup. In 2010, Boruc moved to Serie A with Fiorentina to compete with Sebastian Frey for the number one jersey. He played the majority of games in his first season and was officially made number one in his second year, but the Pole was released in 2012. Boruc then moved to England with Southampton on a one-year deal and stayed there for two years in total, with his consistent form helping the Saints to an eighth-place Premier League finish. The 2014/15 season saw Fraser Forster given the number one shirt at Saints which saw Boruc move to the Cherries on loan in September 2014. The loan spell at Vitality Stadium was a success and, by the end of December 2014, Boruc had kept clean sheets in nine of his 18 appearances, helping the club go top of the Championship. The loan was extended until the end of the season when the Pole helped the Cherries into the Premier League for the first time. The move became permanent and Boruc began the 2015/16 season as Eddie Howe's first-choice goalkeeper. He made 32 Premier League appearances in the club’s first top-flight campaign and a string of impressive performances followed in 2016/17, leading to him being crowned Supporters' Player of the Year. Boruc’s highlights included a magnificent display in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford in March 2017 and he eventually retired from Poland duty after winning 64 caps and appearing at World Cups and European Championships. The arrival of Asmir Begovic saw Boruc's appearances restricted in 2017/18, although he did play six times in cup competitions and signed a new deal at the end of the campaign. Boruc started all five of the Cherries' cup games in 2018/19, helping the club reach the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup and starring in the 1-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in December 2018. The 38-year-old made his 450th career club appearance when he started the Cherries' Premier League 2-0 win over West Ham in January 2019. He made 17 appearances in 2018/19, including 12 in the Premier League, and agreed terms on a new one-year contract in June 2019.
